I came to gaming late in life. It’s not to say I never played board games growing up, because I did. We played the occasional game of Monopoly – with all the rules completely wrong, of course (the way most people do these days – you know, with out putting properties up for auction and putting money in the center of the board for Free Parking). I don’t think we ever finished a game of Monopoly that I remember either, not that I ever wanted to.

I didn’t always love China. We ended up moving there for my dad’s manufacturing business and only planned on staying a few years. I still remember when we first landed. It was a chilly, humid night in October 2011, and I was only thirteen. We left the comparatively bland familiarity of the airport in Shanghai and ventured into the wilds of a freeway where cars and trucks listlessly drifted from lane to lane and traffic rules were optional except under the watchful gaze of the cameras.
